Abstract Here, we report the draft genome sequence and annotation of Nocardia farcinica TRH1, a petroleum hydrocarbons degrading Actinobacteria isolated from the coastal water of Trindade Island, Brazil.

Objetivou-se, com a realização deste trabalho, avaliar o comportamento e a produtividade do capim Tifton 85 (Cynodon dactylon Pers), quando utilizado no tratamento de água residuária da suinocultura (ARS). Para isto, foram construídos cinco tanques de 24,0 x 1,1 x 0,7 m, impermeabilizados com lona de PVC e preenchidos com uma camada de 0,4 m de brita zero (altura útil). Em dois tanques se cultivou o capim Titon 85; um (SAC 3) foi todo cultivado com o capim e o outro (SAC 4) o foi só no terço final, precedido pela Alternanthera e pela taboa. A ARS foi previamente tratada por filtração (filtros orgânicos de bagaço de cana-de-açúcar picado de 0,7 m de altura) e aplicada nos SACs, na vazão de 0,8 m³ d-1, com tempo de detenção hidráulica aproximado de 4,8. Realizaram-se, durante o período de experimentação, 3 cortes no capim, avaliando-se a produtividade de matéria seca e a capacidade de extração de nutrientes. O capim Tifton 85 apresentou produtividade acumulada de matéria seca de 86,3 t ha-1 no SAC 3 e de 65,3 t ha-1 no SAC 4, além de grande capacidade extratora de macro e micronutrientes. À exceção do Zn, o cultivo de outras espécies vegetais não alterou, no mesmo tanque, a capacidade do Tifton 85 em extrair macro e micronutrientes da ARS.

It is the purpose of this study to evaluate the agronomic behavior and yield of the Tifton 85 grass (Cynodon dactylon Pers), when used in the treatment of swine wastewater (SW) with constructed wetland systems (CWs). For this purpose, five tanks were built measuring 24 x 1.1 x 0.7 m, damp-sealed with PVC canvas and filled with 0.4 m crushed stone. In two of these tanks, Tifton grass was cultivated: one of the tanks (CW 3) contained the grass, and in the other (CW4) the grass was only cultivated in the final third part of the tanks, being preceded by Alternanthera (Althernanthera philoxeroides) and cattail (Thypha latifolia L.). The SW was previously treated by means of a filtration process that consists of 0.7 m - high organic filters; the filtering beds were made of chopped sugarcane bagasse. The filter effluents were applied to CWs at a 0.8 m³ d-1 flow rate, corresponding to a hydraulic detention time of about 4.8 days. During the experimental period, three cuttings were done in CWs plants in order to evaluate the dry matter yield and the nutrient extraction capacity. All plants showed satisfactory performance in dry mass yield (86.3 and 65.3 t ha-1, in CW3 and CW4 respectively) and nutrient extraction, as well as in dry matter yield. Except for the case of Zn, the cultivation of other vegetable species in the same tank did not alter the capacity of the Tifton 85 grass extraction of the SW macro and micronutrients removal.

Cinco amostras de solo com alto teor de matéria orgânica (10,14 dag/kg) de 1 kg cada foram autoclavadas (120 °C/1h), cinco foram aquecidas em forno de microondas a 660 watts e 2450 Hz por 4 min e cinco não foram aquecidas. Raízes de Mucuna aterrima, Crotalaria juncea, Tagetes erecta e Lycopersicon esculentum foram maceradas separadamente em liquidificador à baixa velocidade durante 30 s em 1000 mL de água e peneiradas. As suspensões resultantes foram adicionadas às amostras de solos as quais foram acondicionadas em saco plástico e submetidas aos três tratamentos térmicos e posteriormente mantidas a 28 ºC por 24 h. Setenta e oito isolados bacterianos foram obtidos das amostras de solo por diluição em série e submetidos à seleção para o biocontrole de M. javanica. Sementes de tomate foram microbiolizadas por imersão em suspensão de propágulos de cada uma das culturas e semeadas em substrato dentro de tubetes em casa de vegetação. As mudas resultantes foram inoculadas com 400 ovos do nematóide, cada. O isolado UFV-6 de Escherichia coli reduziu o número de galhas em maior magnitude (80%) ao passo que o isolado UFV-8 de Citrobacter freundii foi o mais eficiente na redução do número de ovos (83%). A identificação dos isolados foi feita por análise de ácidos graxos esteres de metil e testes bioquímicos.

Five samples of 1 kg each of organic soil (10.14 dag/kg) were autoclaved at 120 °C for 1 hour, five were heated in a 660 watt and 2450 Hz microwave oven at full power for 4 min, and five were not heat-treated. Roots of Mucuna aterrima, Crotalaria juncea, Tagetes erecta and Lycopersicon esculentum were macerated, separately, in 1000 ml of tap water in a blender at low speed for 30 s, then sieved. Each of the resulting suspensions or just tap water (control treatment) was poured on one of the different soil samples inside a plastic bag and stored at 28 °C for 24 h. Seventy-eight bacterial isolates were obtained from the soil samples by serial dilution and selected for a subsequent assay for the biocontrol of Meloidogyne javanica. Tomato seeds were soaked in suspension of each bacterial isolate, then sowed in substrate inside plastic tubes in the greenhouse. The seedlings were each inoculated with 400 eggs of the nematode. The isolate UFV-6 of Escherichia coli reduced the number of galls to the highest extent (80%), and UFV-8 of Citrobacter freundii was the most effective in reducing number of eggs (83%). The identification of the isolates was done by fatty acid analyses and biochemical tests.
